AmeriCorps at The University of Arkansas
AmeriCorps is the federal agency connecting individuals and organizations through service and volunteering to tackle the nation’s most pressing challenges.
As a member in the VISTA program, you serve full time for one-year. You will build capacity in nonprofit organizations and public agencies to help them more effectively generate the commitment of private sector resources, encourage volunteer service at the local level, and empower individuals and communities.
You receive a modest bi-weekly allowance to cover basic expenses.
Members can choose between a Segal Education Award (valued at approximately $6,895) to pay for a range of education expenses or a $1,800 cash stipend.
AmeriCorps VISTA is the only AmeriCorps program that allows members to earn federal non-competitive eligibility, giving members an edge in the federal hiring process.
You have the opportunity to attend in-person and virtual training to learn how to be a community development change agent.
VAC Food Programs VISTA
The CCE is seeking a VISTA member to advance the work of Full Circle and RFR and seek out new initiatives to contribute to the regional food system. The Food Programs VISTA will work to build the capacity of programs within the Volunteer Action Center and the Center for Community Engagement with the overall goal of serving marginalized communities and alleviating poverty in Northwest Arkansas through expanding food assistance programs and building a network of community partners to strengthen food systems. The member will advise VAC student leaders. The member will also help to grow and adapt existing programs including food recovery and access to food assistance. The member will also focus on building partnerships with other agencies in the region to build capacity for comprehensive assistance resources, food distribution and recovery networks, and to share information and collaborate. The VISTA will build the capacity of the VAC student leaders and the program models to support expanded and new initiatives.
